Malcolm Poole

Often using landscapes and aerial photography as a starting point, Poole takes you on a journey, playing with the perspective within each of his works. The paintings attempt to fool the eye, as the artist shifts and alters the shapes and colours of the three dimensional world to suit his own mood and aesthetic. A sense of movement is evoked, where images and symbols metamorphose on the canvas.
Poole’s work offers the viewer a world of tilted angles, hidden images and personal symbols where solid forms become two dimensional patterns, with the detail stripped away.

Having originally studied sculpture, part time, at the Waverley Art School, Poole was able to return to artistic study, after years working as a butcher, in 1994 he complete a graduate diploma at the National Art School, Sydney. On graduating Poole became the founder of the Lennox Street Studios, Newtown, where he has helped foster the area’s artistic community.

Loris Quantock

Award winning artist Loris Quantock is based at the Lennox Street Studios in the inner city suburb of Newtown. She began her art studies under the tutelage of well known contemporary Sydney artists. Realising she had a passion for making art, Loris undertook more formal studies in a fine art course at St George Technical College, since then she has travelled extensively throughout Australia drawing inspiration from the landscape.

Loris’ highly individual art reflects her observation of and intense reaction to the rich diversity of the Australian landscape.
She displays a response to the natural world that is both intriguing and intrigued. Loris' most recent paintings are striking oil-on-canvas works that vibrate with dramatic colour.

In 2008 Loris won the People’s Choice Award at the ‘Like Art’ exhibition and in 2007 she received the Directors Choice Award at the inaugural Marrickville Art Prize. In 2009 Loris was, at the invitation of the Jenolan Caves Trust, Artist in Residence.

Loris’ commissioned works and works purchased at exhibition appear in both public and private collections in Australia and overseas.
